South Shore Lake Chelan Addition
Nestled along the picturesque south shore of Lake Chelan, this project transforms a modest 1960s cabin into a refined lakeside retreat by blending historical charm with modern design. A key challenge was the uniquely narrow site—formerly a small two-lane highway—requiring a thoughtful approach to maximize space, enhance views, and create a seamless connection between the existing structure and its contemporary addition. The original cabin is updated with a dark grey exterior, allowing it to blend into the landscape, while the new extension contrasts with crisp white siding and warm cedar, establishing a balanced dialogue between past and present.
Designed for both function and beauty, the home prioritizes connectivity to the lake, with large openings that invite natural light and frame expansive water views. The interior balances intimate, cozy spaces with airy communal areas, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. Expanding on the site’s potential, the addition introduces modern architectural elements while respecting the cabin’s roots, resulting in a timeless retreat that harmonizes with its stunning waterfront surroundings.
